Izu Wasabi Visitor Center

Opened in April 2024 in Izu City, the Izu Wasabi Visitor Center showcases the rich culture of Izu Wasabi and promotes interaction with the local community. Though compact, the museum features detailed and easy-to-understand panels about the history of wasabi cultivation and the techniques nurtured by Izu’s pure waters.

The exhibits go beyond history, highlighting the components, health benefits, and scientific data of wasabi, making it engaging for adults as well. Interactive quizzes are available throughout the museum, allowing children to learn while having fun—and participants receive a commemorative wasabi sticker as a reward.

Visitors can also experience VR footage of a wasabi field, providing the sensation of walking through the fields firsthand. For those who have never tried fresh wasabi, a taste comparison with tube wasabi is highly recommended, revealing the depth of flavor, aroma, and spiciness.

Nearby facilities sell fresh wasabi, making it easy to combine sightseeing with a shopping experience. Enjoy the unique flavors of real Izu wasabi, cultivated in harmony with the region’s natural environment, through all five senses.
