Nirayama Reverberatory Furnaces, a component site of the Sites of Japan’s Meiji Industrial Revolution, feature one of the few remaining reverberatory furnaces in Japan that was actually in operation.

A valley on the northern side of Amagi Pass, nestled within a dense forest along a tributary of the Kano River. Following the hiking trail along the stream from Ryushi Falls, the majestic Taro Cedar, a designated natural monument, suddenly comes into view.

Shuzenji Temple Okunoin is located in the Yufune village, about 5km west of the hot springs. It is also known as the place where Kobo Daishi underwent training when he was 18 years old.

Located right in the center of Shuzenji Onsen, alongside the Katsura River. Many visitors enjoy strolling around the river, through the bamboo forest. And enjoy a different side at night when the illuminations shines bright.

Hie Shrine, located at the kimon (demon gate) which is adjacent from Shuzenji Temple. Originally the temple’s Sanno Shrine and is said to have been founded by Kobo Daishi.In October, the annual festival is held, featuring mikoshi (portable shrines) and shagiri floats parading through the Shuzenji Onsen area.

Links Izu City and Kawazu Town and is one of Japan’s longest stone tunnels at 445.5 meters. A National Important Cultural Property, it is also associated with The Dancing Girl of Izu and offers a glimpse into Amagi’s history and nature.

Founded in the Heian period, is known as the birthplace of Shuzenji Onsen. Rich in history linked to the Hojo clan and the Minamoto family, it remains a symbolic presence of the hot spring town, with seasonal rituals held throughout the year.

Once produced an estimated 40 tons of gold, is a popular attraction in Izu City. Visitors can explore the tunnels, try gold panning, and enjoy unique features such as a footbath and gold-leaf soft serve, blending history with hands-on fun.

Cvonsidered the oldest wooden building in Izu, was built to honor Minamoto no Yoriie. Inside the chapel sits a rare Seated Shaka Nyorai statue holding a lotus, a unique feature in Japan. Away from the bustle, it’s a quiet place to reflect on the history of Shuzenji.
