【Osezaki】Numazu・Geopark

Osezaki, located in Numazu is a peninsula that juts out about 1km into Suruga Bay, and is also known as Biwa Island. It is a popular diving spot, but it also has many other attractions, such as shrines, ponds, and natural monuments. On a clear day, you can even enjoy the view of Mt. Fuji.

Giant juniper trees grow naturally in Osezaki, and in 1932 it was designated as a natural monument, a juniper forest. The sacred tree is estimated to be about 1,500 years old, and has an overwhelming presence. Please take the time to look around and see how the trunk twists as it grows.

Osezaki is also home to a pond called "Kamiike." A freshwater pond despite being surrounded by the sea, and the reason for this has yet to be explained, so it is said to be one of the Seven Wonders of Izu. You can feed the fishes swimming in the pond. Take a stroll around the charming Osezaki and feel its power.
