About the Area

Blessed with a mild climate averaging 17.3°C annually, the South Izu area faces the beautiful Pacific Ocean and is known for its subtropical atmosphere. White sandy beaches, lush greenery, and local fruits create a resort-like setting, while scenic spots such as Cape Irozaki and Cape Tsumekizaki showcase dramatic coastlines. More than half of the region is covered by untouched forests and natural landscapes.

The port town of Shimoda, with its historic streets built of Izu stone, played a key role in the opening of Japan. Kawazu Town is famous for Kawazu cherry blossoms and the Seven Waterfalls, featured in The Dancing Girl of Izu.
In Minamiizu Town, vast fields of rapeseed flowers bloom in spring, preserving a peaceful rural landscape. South Izu offers one of the most authentic and deeply immersive experiences on the Izu Peninsula.
