About the Area

North Izu, including Mishima and Numazu, once prospered as post towns along the historic Tokaido route and is known today as the gateway to the Izu Peninsula. With excellent access from the Tokyo metropolitan area by rail and expressway, it is a convenient starting point for exploring Izu.
The Kano River flows from the Amagi Mountains to Suruga Bay, whose coastline is lined with Senbon Matsubara, a scenic pine grove closely tied to local life.
The Mishima Lava Plateau, formed by an ancient eruption of Mount Fuji, is nourished by clear spring water from the mountain’s melted snow.

SPECIALITY

Blessed by the rich fishing grounds of Suruga Bay, North Izu is known for its fresh seafood and port-town food culture.
Seafood delivered directly from Numazu Port, along with local specialties, reflects a close connection to the sea.
Horse mackerel, splendid alfonsino (kinmedai), and sakura shrimp are prepared to highlight their natural flavors.
Enjoy the authentic “sea delicacies” of North Izu, shaped by the ocean and local life.

NATURE

Although North Izu is often thought of as one of the more populated and urbanized parts
of the Izu Peninsula, nature remains deeply woven into everyday life.
A long-standing sense of respect for the natural world has shaped this beautiful balance between people and nature.
