Every year on August 21st, the "O-Kobo-san Fireworks Festival" is held at Shuzenji Onsen to honor the spirit of Kōbō Daishi. This fireworks display is a beloved tradition among both locals and tourists, illuminating the summer night sky with vibrant colors.

修善寺温泉の起源は、約1200年前にさかのぼります。伝説によれば、弘法大師がこの地を訪れた際、桂川の水で病気の父を洗う少年を見て、「川の水では冷たいだろう」と、手にした仏具「独鈷（とっこ）」で岩を打ち、温泉を湧き出させたといわれています。その温泉への感謝と、弘法大師への祈りを込めて打ち上げられる花火は、まさに神秘的なひとときを演出します。

修善寺の山々に響き渡る大輪の花火が、温泉街の夜空を美しく染め上げます。特にスターマインやメッセージ花火は見応えがあり、観客を魅了します。そして、最大の見どころはフィナーレを飾る桂川に仕掛けられた「ナイアガラの滝」。約70メートルにわたる光の滝が流れ落ちる様子は、幻想的でまるで別世界に迷い込んだかのような美しさです。

As the procession moves forward, tourists and locals gather along the roadside to witness the elegant spectacle, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere of spring. Known affectionately as "Haru no O-Kobo-san (春のお弘法さん)" (Spring Kobo Daishi Festival), this cherished tradition serves as a symbol of spring’s arrival in Shuzenji Onsen. Amidst the rising steam of the hot springs, visitors are invited to experience this graceful and solemn moment, embracing the timeless beauty of the ceremony.
