Minamiizu area

South Izu Area

About the Area

Minamiizu area has a warm climate with an average annual temperature of 17.3℃ and the beautiful Pacific Ocean. It is attractive for its sparkling white sand beaches, plants and fruits that evoke a tropical paradise. More than half of the area is covered with scenic spots such as Cape Irozaki and Cape Tsumekizaki, a magnificent coastline and untouched mountain forests. Shimoda is a port town where Japan opened its doors to the world and its streets made of Izu stone remain. Kawazu Town is famous for the Seven Waterfalls and Kawazu cherry blossoms, which were depicted as the setting for the 'Izu Dancer (Izu no Odoriko)'. In spring, fields of rapeseed blossoms spread across the land and the idyllic original Japanese scenery remains in Minamiizu Town. This is an area where you can enjoy the deeper side of Izu than anywhere else.
