西伊豆エリア

West Izu Area

About the Area

The Nishiizu area faces Suruga Bay and offers beautiful views of Mount Fuji floating in the sea and vibrant sunsets. It is also known as one of Japan's leading diving spots. The Nishiizu area is also said to be the birthplace of private lodgings (minshuku), and the private lodgings with onsen scattered in the southern part of Matsuzaki Town offer a slightly different way of relaxing than in onsen towns. The local food culture is also appealing, with Nishiizu Town's Takobushi (bonito flakes) and salted dried skipjack tuna. You can feel the power of the Izu Peninsula's magnificent nature from the natural landscapes created by volcanic activity, such as Cape Koganezaki in Ukusu and Tensado Cave in Dogashima.

Nature

Mount Fuji can be seen from most of the coastline in Nishiizu. The strangely shaped rocks, which give a sense of the volcanic activity, are dyed orange, which is famous for being the best sunset in Japan, adding to the contrast. We hope you will enjoy Nishiizu as much as you can.
