Prior to the Spring Kōbō Daishi Memorial Ceremony and Yukumishiki Ritual on April 21,
the "Mandoue" (Ten Thousand Lanterns Ceremony) lights up the night in Shuzenji Onsen.
During the day on the previous day (April 20th), the "O-Nobori" (Sacred Procession) takes place, in which the portable shrine enshrined in the Daishido Hall of Shuzenji Temple is carried to Oku-no-in by bearers dressed in white robes and eboshi hats. Along the way, the powerful chants of "Namu Daishi Henjo Kongo" resound through the streets, while well-wishers along the route throw small offerings.

At Shuzenji Temple, which enshrines Kobo Daishi, the quiet onsen town is illuminated by the glow of a hundred candles, creating a mesmerizing and otherworldly atmosphere. These flickering lights are offerings of gratitude and prayers from worshippers and local residents to Kobo Daishi. The golden glow floating in the night exudes a mystical beauty, as if bridging the past and present.

On the night of April 20th, where tranquility and fervor intertwine, Shuzenji Onsen takes on an especially enchanting atmosphere. Bathed in the warm glow of countless lights, the hot spring town becomes a scene of serene beauty. As you take in this mystical ambiance, we invite you to offer your prayers to Kobo Daishi and enjoy a moment of peace and reflection.
