伊豆市湯ヶ島 浄蓮の滝

Joren Falls is included in the Top 100 Waterfalls of Japan. It is no exaggeration to say that it is the best waterfall in Izu, located upstream of the Kano River. The straight waterfall and the beautiful cobalt blue waterfall basin capture the hearts of those who see it. It is cool and refreshing even in midsummer, and depending on the wind direction, you can even feel the spray of the water.

Formed about 17,000 years ago, the rock surface has columnar cracks (columnar joints) that formed as the lava cooled, and it is registered as a Geosite. You can also see the rare fern (Citrus orbiculatus) that grows only in Izu and southern Kyushu.

The abundant flowing water is beautiful, and you can enjoy stream fishing along the river and visit the wasabi fields. There are many wasabi-related souvenirs on display at the shop, and it's fun just to look around. It's a recommended spot, but we recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes as you will have to go down steep stairs from the parking lot/bus stop to the viewing spot.
