Izu City – A Treasure Trove of Local Specialties

Izu City is home to a wide variety of local specialties nurtured by its natural environment. These include wasabi and shiitake mushrooms; ayu sweetfish and amago trout from the Kano River, which flows from Mount Amagi, famous for Amagi-goe; tokoroten (traditional jelly noodles) made from agar harvested in Suruga Bay; the rare and highly prized “Toi White Loquat,” often called a legendary fruit; Shuzenji black rice, known for its health benefits; and venison from local deer (Izu Shika), well known as a regional game dish. These products reflect the rich natural blessings unique to Izu City.
