女将の雛飾り
Shuzenji Onsen – Hanakomichi Hina Dolls & Tsurushi Kazari Exhibition

This special exhibition showcases a rare collection of Hina dolls and palace-style displays from the Meiji to Heisei periods, allowing visitors to appreciate the intricate craftsmanship and historical evolution of these traditional decorations. In addition, they also feature Tsurushi Kazari, a traditional hanging ornament from the Izu region, known for its delicate hand-stitched decorations and symbolic meanings.

Hina dolls date back to the Heian period, originally enjoyed by the aristocracy and later evolving into elaborate seven-tiered displays during the Edo period. The palace-style displays (Goten Kazari) recreate noble residences, offering a glimpse into the luxurious customs of the past. On the other hand, Tsurushi Kazari originated in the late Edo period as a heartfelt tradition in families who could not afford a full set of Hina dolls. Handmade fabric ornaments, each carrying a special wish—peach blossoms for protection, coin purses for prosperity, rabbits for good health and so on—were carefully sewn and tied together to celebrate a child's well-being and happiness.

Enjoy a special moment immersed in the elegance of Japanese tradition, surrounded by the charming atmosphere of the onsen town. If you visit Shuzenji in Izu City, be sure to stop by!
