Toi Zakura, found in Toi, Izu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, is known as Japan's earliest-blooming cherry blossom. These beautiful deep pink flowers begin to bloom from early January to mid-February, offering an early sign of spring.

What sets Toi Zakura apart from other sakura, is its thick petals and large blossoms, which last longer than most cherry blossoms. During its blooming season, the local Toi Zakura Festival takes place, featuring food stalls, events, and enchanting nighttime illuminations of the blossoms.

At Toi Gold Mine (Toi Kinzan), a Night Sakura Illumination is held from Friday to Sunday, offering visitors a chance to enjoy the enchanting beauty of the cherry blossoms in a completely different light than during the day. Admission is free on Friday, January 17, 2025, and every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday during the festival period, from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM (last entry at 8:00 PM). Don’t miss this opportunity to experience the magical atmosphere of illuminated sakura!

Visitors can also participate in a stamp rally by exploring designated spots such as Matsubara Park, Manpukuji Temple, and Toi Shrine to collect stamps and earn prizes. Additionally, the festival offers local product sales, complimentary cherry leaf tea, and exclusive limited-edition Goshuin (temple stamps) available only during the Toi Sakura Festival. Even beyond the festival, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the local area and its unique charm!

Set against the serene backdrop of Izu's coastline, Toi Zakura is a must-see for visitors. Experience the charm of these early blossoms and add a touch of color to your winter journey in Izu.
